Prior's Coppice is a reserve situated south of Braunston village, nr Oakham in the county of Rutland. It is an ancient ash-maple and ash-wych elm woodland, probably a relic of the wildwood which covered Leicester before prehistoric people cleared it. There is evidence of traditional management throughout the site in the form of giant coppice stools. Some of the wood is being left to grow as a natural woodland. The remainder of the woodland is being managed with an ongoing coppice cycle.
The weekend was a Natural Break. During the weekend we extended one of the coops. We were cutting the decidious trees back to coppice stumps and making stakes and binders for a future hedge laying project.
